Short answer: the best AI for your small business is usually the one that fits the tools you already use. On Google Workspace, Gemini is built in. On Microsoft 365, Copilot is. For writing and connecting business tools, I use and teach Claude. ChatGPT is the one most people have already tried. Pick one, set it up properly, and stop tool-hopping.

This is one of the questions I get asked most, so here’s my honest take after teaching AI to small business owners on UK council-funded programmes.

Why I use Claude

Quick answers

Is ChatGPT or Claude better for business?

Both are good. Claude tends to be stronger at writing in your own voice and working with long documents, while ChatGPT is the one most people have already tried. Pick one and set it up properly.

Is there a free AI for small business?

Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot all have free versions, but they run out fast and miss business features. A paid plan at around £20 a month is usually worth it once you use it daily.

Should my business use more than one AI tool?

Not at first. Tool-hopping is the most common reason AI doesn't stick. Set one up properly, and only add another when there's a job it can't do.
